History & Establishment of University
Sikkim State University was established in 2003 and amended in 2017. The University has 10 affiliated colleges in Sikkim. It has six schools, namely the School of Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Languages and Literature, Human Sciences, and Professional Studies, along with 32 departments. The institute was established with the aim of providing higher education in various fields such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Communication, and Literature. It has been providing quality education in the form of UG, PG, and doctoral courses.
UNIVERSITY ACT 2003 AND AMENDMENT ACT 2017
Sikkim State University was founded with the basic objective of strengthening the link between education and skill development, making the youth of Sikkim educated, skilled, and employable, and giving them the capacity to harness diverse opportunities both within and outside Sikkim. This will also create more job opportunities for the youth, thus addressing the issue of growing unemployment in the state.
